Make your own Oat Milk

I consume 6-8 1.89 litres jugs of non dairy milk a month. It’s getting a little expensive so I decided to make my own oat milk. It will cost about 20 cents to make. Right now a 1.89 litre jug of oat milk at my local grocery store is $3.99. Here is the recipe. Enjoy.

3/4 cup of oats (any kind will do, but I like steel cut)

Pinch of salt (optional)

Soak the oats in water over night. If you are in a rush then soak oats for 20 mins in hot water. Then rinse the oats. Next put soaked oats in blender with 1 litre of water plus salt and blend on high for 2 mins. This is where I stop, it’s not necessary but you could strain the oat milk. Store in the fridge for up to 5 days.

This process is pretty much the same for any type of non dairy milk such as almond or cashew.

By making my own oat milk I save approximately $5,000 every 10 years. It has the added benefit of being healthier and less impactful on the environment.

Happy Sunday
